The Galaxy Watch is the most popular line of smartwatch among Samsung’s lineup. It’s also compatible with third-party apps, which makes it perfect for those who want to use a watch as their primary device. However, some features have been introduced on other models and this article will help you decide if upgrading from your current model is worth it or not.

The “galaxy watch 4 vs galaxy watch” is a comparison between the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is the newest version of the watch, which has an upgraded design and more features.

Samsung debuted the Galaxy Watch in August 2018, followed by the Galaxy Watch 3 two years later, and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in August 2021. That’s three Galaxy Watch generations. Unlike its Active and Galaxy Watch 4 rivals, which have a geekier style, the Galaxy smartwatches feature a classic aesthetic similar to a regular watch. What has changed over time is that Galaxy watches have grown more compact at the cost of a significant reduction in Life of the battery. Over the previous 18 months, I’ve utilized the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 3, while the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has only been with me for four months. I’ve done a head-to-head comparison of the three in this period. As a result, here’s a full comparison of the three generations of Galaxy Watch by Samsunges to see how they’ve evolved over time.

Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

One thing to keep in mind is that each of these three models is available in two sizes, and each of these sizes is available in Bluetooth and LTE versions. The Galaxy Watch 3 is 41/45mm in size, whereas the other two are 42/46mm.

Even though these three have almost identical appearances and share many similarities, there are several distinctions, as seen in the chart above. To begin, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, like the Galaxy Watch 4, works on the Wear OS platform, while the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch run on Tizen OS. As a consequence, you’ll have greater access to applications like YouTube Music, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Spotify, and others. The Tizen platform’s main drawback has been the lack of access to your favorite applications.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic also boasts a more vibrant display, but I couldn’t see the difference. It also has a larger storage capacity and includes body composition analysis, which the other two do not.

Unlike the other two, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has a more sophisticated 5nm W920 Exynos processor, whilst the other two use a 10nm Exynos 9110 is an Exynos processor. is an Exynos processor. chip. However, I haven’t observed much of a difference in performance between these three. Samsung clearly chose that processor to address the sluggish Wear OS platform.

The Galaxy Watch comes out on top due to its excellent Life of the battery. The Galaxy Watch 3 has a slightly longer Life of the battery than the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, allowing you to use it for up to four days.

Design – All three have a strong and robust design.

These three have a striking resemblance in design. Samsung seems to be experimenting with several button designs. The Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic both feature a flat button, however the Galaxy Watch 3 has a circular button that protrudes. However, I like the flat design.

1646285817_483_Samsung-Galaxy-Watch-4-Classic-In

Samsung has also rearranged the buttons on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, with the home/power key at the top and the back key at the bottom. On the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch, the bottom key is the home/power key, while the top key is the back key, respectively.

1646375059_448_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

On all three watches, you’ll find touchscreen functionality as well as a tactile spinning bezel. The Galaxy Watch, on the other hand, features a thicker bezel with a more elegant marking on top and inside. It would make a lot more sense if those inscriptions were on the top of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The narrower bezel, though, is a superior design.

Each of these three has a Stainless steel is a durable material. is a durable material. is a durable material. is a durable material. is a durable material. is a durable material. case with Corning Gorilla Glass DX is a kind of Corning Gorilla Glass. protecting the display. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic come with a silicone strap, while the Galaxy Watch 3 comes with a leather strap. Samsung has opted for a 20mm Size of the strap for all Galaxy Watch 4 Classic sizes, while it’s 22mm for the 46mm and 45mm models of Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 3. It’s 20mm size for their respective smaller 42mm and 41mm sizes. All straps are interchangeable with compatible straps. I like that both the 46mm and 42mm sizes of the Classic now support the same 20mm strap.

When you compare the measurements of these three watches, you’ll see that the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is the smallest and slimmest. It’s also a touch lighter than the other two. Meanwhile, one of the Galaxy Watch’s disadvantages is its enormous size, which is also fairly hefty.

Faces for the Display and the Watch

Super AMOLED powers the display of all three watches. Meanwhile, the 46mm Galaxy Watch has a smaller 1.3 inches tall display compared to 1.4 inches tall tall of the other two. The smaller units of all three have the same 1.2 inches Size of the displays.

1646375060_18_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4In comparison to the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 3, the display brightness of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is higher.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic offers a greater resolution than its predecessors in terms of resolution. It has a higher PPI, which implies it has a greater color density. However, the change in visual quality is difficult to discern. What I do know is that each of these three has a bright, easy-to-read display in any light situation.

You may change the watch faces on any of these three devices at any time. You may download watch faces for the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic by using the Google Playstore app on the watch or through the Galaxy Wearable app.

Meanwhile, with the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 3, you may download new watch faces from the Galaxy store, which is also available on the device. Changing the face of your watch is the same on all three. Simply press and hold the home button to bring up the watch face, then scroll to choose or download a new one. On both the Google Playstore and the Galaxy Store, you’ll find a plethora of alternatives from third-party developers.

User-Interface Design

1646375060_103_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

Despite running on the Wear OS platform, Samsung has layered the one UI interface on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. As a result, you get a very similar User-Interface Design to the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

What this means is that if you’re coming from an older Samsung smartwatch, you wouldn’t have any difficulties using the Galaxy Watch 4 units. Although, there are slight differences in the User-Interface Design.

One of the changes is that you can access all applications on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic by swiping up from the homescreen, just as you can on your Samsung smartphone. In the meanwhile, the other two don’t have this feature.

The best experience for me is that to go back to a previous menu on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, you simply swipe right. Meanwhile, to go back to a previous menu on the other two, you must press the back key. Clearly, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has a superior User-Interface Design to its Predecessors.

Beyond that, swiping down brings up the fast panel portion, where you may swipe left to view your widgets and right to see your alerts. All three watches have the same problem.

Meanwhile, with touchscreen capabilities, two physical buttons, and the classic physical spinning bezel, navigating is a breeze.

Fitness Tracking — The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic focuses on fitness.

Tracking your health is at the core function of each of these three with new fitness tracking features added over time which is why the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is a more comprehensive fitness tracker than its Predecessors. These three share lots of similarities in tracking your daily activities except for the Galaxy Watch which lacks Spo2, High Blood Pressure (HBP) and Measurement of the ECG. There is a bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor in the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic that enables the new Measurement of Body Composition. The other two don’t have this feature.

    • Counting Steps and Calories

One of the simplest monitoring functions available on all three is the ability to measure your steps and calories. Each of these three devices will track your steps and calories 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All three are highly consistent in their step counts, according to my testing.

    • Monitoring Your Heart Rate

Each of these three will also track your heart rate 24/7, intermittently, or manually depending on your settings. I have compared this to a manual heart rate tracker, and it is obvious that all three are very consistent in measuring my heart rate. You get to see your resting heart rate as well as your heart rate range. You can see a history of your heart rate overtime in the Samsung Health is a mobile application that allows you to track your.

    • Galaxy Watch 3 vs Galaxy Watch 4 Classic – Tracking your sleep

Each of these three will also track your sleep in four stages. I have compared these three to the Versa 3 and Band 4 Pro. From my result, I got a near similar Tracking your sleep result on all three. If you look at the chart above, you’ll see that the actual sleep time of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is very similar to what I got with the Versa 3. Note that actual sleep time is different from the total duration of sleep.

    • Huawei Band 4 Pro vs Galaxy Watch vs Fitbit Versa 3 – Tracking your sleep

The Band 4 Pro doesn’t track actual sleep time, it only tracks the total duration of sleep. All three Galaxy watches will track snoring and as well give you a sleep score. The Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic which both have Spo2 will also track your Oxygen in the blood level when you sleep.

    • Measurement of Stress

Each of these three has the Measurement of Stress feature and will track your stress level continuously or manually. You can view your stress level over time from the Samsung Health is a mobile application that allows you to track your. Moreover, if you feel stressed, each of these three has a breathing app that can guide you through a breathing session. This can help you reduce stress. Samsung has added a handful of contents in the Samsung Health is a mobile application that allows you to track your that can help you when you feel stressed.

    • Outdoor race between the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

Each of these three watches has an integrated GPS, with the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic supporting other satellite systems like as GLONASS and Beidou. As a consequence, you won’t need to bring your phone with you to monitor your routes and whereabouts for any of them. I compared each of them to the Versa 3 and Band 4 Pro, as well as to each other. The findings were fairly similar, with only minor changes, leading me to believe that each of them is a reliable route and location tracker.

1646373244_239_Samsung-Galaxy-Watch-3-Long

    • Outdoor Running: Band 4 Pro vs. Galaxy Watch 3 vs. Fitbit Versa 3

1646373245_245_Samsung-Galaxy-Watch-3-Long

    • Classic – Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 vs. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

After an outdoor workout like running, walking or hiking, you will be able to view see the details of your activity on the watch but to see the full detail, you will need to go to the Samsung Health is a mobile application that allows you to track your.

    • Oxygen in the blood measurement

Both the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic have Spo2 measurement which isn’t available on the Galaxy Watch. This will allow you to measure how your blood utilizes oxygen. These two will track your Oxygen in the blood continuously and even when you wear any of these to sleep. I compared the Spo2 measurement of these two against the Band 4 Pro, and it was pretty much the same result.

    • Fall detection on the spur of the moment and SOS

All three Galaxy watches have the Fall detection on the spur of the moment feature that allows any of these three to automatically call a preset emergency contact when it detects a hard fall. A message with a link to your location will also be sent to the contact. You can also activate this function manually by pressing the home key three times.

1646375069_584_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

    • How to enable SOS and Fall detection on the spur of the moment on Galaxy Watch 4

You will need to enable Fall detection on the spur of the moment from the Galaxy Wearable app. From the app, you can toggle on SOS and Fall detection on the spur of the moment. You can also add more than one contact. This feature can come in handy for older ones and individuals suffering from certain ailments.

    • Measurement of the ECG

Both Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic come with an additional electrical heart sensor which is not available on the Galaxy Watch. This sensor enables Measurement of the ECG directly on these two. This can help detect irregular heart rhythm which can be a sign of atrial fibrillation. Note that both the ECG and High Blood Pressure (HBP) measurement features need the Samsung Health is a mobile application that allows you to track your. These two features are not available in every country. Fortunately, with a modified version of the app, you can get ECG and High Blood Pressure (HBP) measurements on your Galaxy Watch 4 irrespective of your location or phone.

    • High Blood Pressure (HBP) Measurement

The Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic also feature High Blood Pressure (HBP) measurements. You will need to calibrate this feature with an upper arm High Blood Pressure (HBP) to get the best result. You can do this from the Samsung Health Monitor app. When compared to a traditional High Blood Pressure (HBP) monitor, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has almost the same figure.

    • Preloaded Modes for sports

1646375070_302_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

    • Classic – Workout modes Galaxy Watch compared Galaxy Watch 3 vs Galaxy Watch 4

Each of these three comes with 42 sports modes pre-installed. This provides you a lot of possibilities for achieving your fitness objectives. Running, running coach, hiking, and lunges are still my favorites.

    • Other TRACKING ACTIVITIES Features

Other TRACKING ACTIVITIES features include Cycle of menstruation tracking for women, hydration tracking that lets you log your water intake and you can also log your food intake from the Samsung Health is a mobile application that allows you to track your. All these are available on all three Galaxy watches.

  • Measurement of Body Composition

1646375070_584_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

One feature you will not find on Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch 3 is the Measurement of Body Composition. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic comes with a bioelectrical impendence analysis sensor that enables the watch to measure your body composition. You simply need to enter your weight, place your two middle fingers on the back and home key, and the watch will measure your body fat, body water, BMI, skeletal muscle, BMR and fat mass.

Music services and media storage

The storage capacity of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is greater than that of its predecessors. It has 16GB of storage, compared to 8GB on the Galaxy Watch 3 and 4GB on the Galaxy Watch. As a consequence, you’ll be able to save more songs on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. From the Galaxy Wearable app, you may add own songs to any of these three.

Meanwhile, the Wear OS-based Galaxy Watch 4 Classic provides you access to YouTube Music and Spotify, which you won’t find on the other two.

1646375071_615_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4On the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, you may listen to music from YouTube.

The Galaxy Watch 4 will not be able to stream music via YouTube Music. This might, however, be addressed in future releases. You can only download music to the Galaxy Watch 4 from YouTube Music. To do so, you’ll need to upgrade to YouTube Songs premium in order to download music to listen to offline.

1646375072_881_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4On the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, there’s a Spotify app.

Meanwhile, Spotify on the Galaxy Watch 4 allows you to listen to music for free while connected to WiFi or when your phone is nearby. To listen to music offline, you’ll need to subscribe to Spotify premium, which enables you to sync and download songs to your Galaxy Watch 4, which you can then listen to while you’re not connected to the internet.

By default, both YouTube Music and Spotify will only play music via a Bluetooth headphone. You can connect one by going to settings>>connections>>Bluetooth on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

When I evaluated the volume of the speakers on these three watches, it was evident that the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic had the loudest speaker, while the Galaxy Watch has the quietest.

Calling and Being Called

There is a microphone and a loudspeaker on each of these three. This enables you to make and receive phone calls straight from your wristwatch. It’s worth noting that the Bluetooth variants of these three will need you to keep your phone close by in order to make and receive calls. Meanwhile, the LTE variants can make and receive calls without the need of a smartphone.

Each of these three watches also comes with a contact app that syncs your phone contacts to the watch, as well as a phone app that allows you to call any number right from the watch. You’ll need to connect a Bluetooth headset to obtain the greatest call quality.

Making Payments and Managing Notifications

The most fundamental function of a wristwatch is to manage notifications. In this respect, all three Galaxy watches will notify you when a notification is received, and you may also react to messages.

You must activate notifications from the Galaxy Wearable app to get alerts on any of them. You’ll be able to get alerts after you’ve enabled it.

1646375073_431_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4

You may respond to messages using your voice, emoticons, or the keyboard tool on any of these three devices. You may also use pre-programmed rapid answers to respond to communications. It’s worth noting that respond isn’t available in every app. You can’t respond to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram messages, according to the applications I tried. Messages from WhatsApp and Gmail, on the other hand, may be replied to.

There is an NFC chip in each of these three that enabled you to make payments from the watch. By default, you get Samsung Pay is a mobile payment system developed by Samsung is a mobile payment system developed by Samsung is a mobile payment system developed by Samsung on each of these. However, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic which runs on Wear OS also features Google Pay which gives you more than one option to make payment from the watch.

Life of the battery – Galaxy Watch has the longest Life of the battery

Despite having the most features, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic has one major downside and that’s its poor Life of the battery. I get about 1.5 days on average with always-on enable and brightness set at the midpoint. It’s about 2 days with the Galaxy Watch 3 while the Galaxy Watch gives me about 4 days of Life of the battery. This is the only area where the Galaxy Watch wins over its successors. This is as a result of its bigger case which allows for a bigger capacity of the battery.

Similarly, the 42mm Galaxy Watch has a longer Life of the battery than the smaller units of the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Note that because the smaller units have smaller capacity of the battery, they have shorter Life of the battery when compared to the bigger units.

1646375074_167_Galaxy-Watch-vs-Galaxy-Watch-3-vs-Galaxy-Watch-4On the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, there are battery-saving modes.

Meanwhile, each of these three has battery saver modes that you can choose from in other to get longer Life of the battery.

Both the Galaxy Watch 3 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic come with a magnetic charger, and both can be completely charged in under an hour. Because of the quick charging technology. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch comes with a Qi wireless charger that charges the gadget in 1.5 hours.

Except for the Galaxy Watch Active, which was only available in Bluetooth, Samsung has always produced a Bluetooth and LTE versions of its smartwatches from the beginning of the Gear series.

The LTE and Bluetooth devices offer essentially the same characteristics. The LTE device, on the other hand, comes with an eSIM that, when activated, allows cellular capabilities on the watch, thereby turning it into a standalone smartwatch. You will be able to make and receive calls as well as send and receive messages without having to use your phone.

In this regard, the LTE model of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will be able to make and receive calls, send and receive messages, you can activate Fall detection on the spur of the moment when your phone isn’t nearby and you can access Google map and more without your phone. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth model requires your phone to perform these actions.

In my opinion, this is one argument that has yet to be entirely decided. This is because there seems to be a significant disparity between the advantages and disadvantages of these two systems. The largest difference between these two, in my view, is the availability of applications from third-party developers.

Wear OS provides access to Google Play, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Pay, and other applications such as Spotify and others. These applications are not available on the Galaxy Watch 3 or Galaxy Watch.

Meanwhile, with Tizen OS you get a less-buggy and laggy platform. It also has a very simple and easy to use interface. Thanks to Samsung’s One UI which has been skinned on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. This is why the User-Interface Design of these three look very similar.

Outrightly, yes! If you want more features, you should upgrade to the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. It has higher storage, a more comfortable build, more fitness features, and gives you access to more of your favorite apps. It however has poor Life of the battery.

I’m planning on selling my Galaxy Watch but keeping my Galaxy Watch 3. I enjoy the feel of a Tizen and Wear OS Samsung wristwatch on my wrist.
